Frequently asked questions
I am wearing a denture for my lower jaw and it is uncomfortable for me. What is the best treatment option other than removable complete denture?
The best treatment option other than denture is a full fixed implant supported prosthesis or implant supported overdenture. These options have a definite advantage over conventional removable denture, particularly in terms of fit and function. Please consult a Prosthodontist for an opinion.
I had to get my tooth extracted because of decay. What are the tooth replacement options available?
There are several tooth replacement options available, and the most suitable one for you would depend on various factors, including your oral health, preferences, and budget. The various tooth replacement options are: dentalimplants, dental bridges in varieties of materials such as metal, ceramic, zirconia, etc, and removable partial dentures. It’s important to consult a prosthodontist to determine the most appropriate option for your specific case.
How do Dental implants work?
ental implants are artificial tooth roots that are surgically placed into the jawbone. Once placed in the jaw the implant fuses with the jawbone through a process called osseointegration. They can then provide a stable foundation for a crown or denture. In most cases dentists prefer to wait for 8-12 weeks before fabricating the crown/bridge/denture; however, in selected cases it is possible to place the implant and provide a temporary crown/ bridge/denture immediately.
I wanted to know which is better dental implants or bridge?
Both are perfectly viable options with a healthy success rate over an extended period of time. Dental Implants involve a minor oral surgery following which the replacement procedures may either start immediately or after 3-6 months of healing, depending on the case. On the other hand, dental bridges are a conventional non-surgical option, however it involves slight reduction of adjacent teeth to accommodate the components of the bridge.
I recently got operated for oral cancer due to which I lost a part of my upper jaw and teeth. I wanted to know what are the different treatment options to correct this situation?
The easiest way to correct this situation will be to go in for a removable prosthesis which can replace the lost hard and soft tissues of the jaw as well as the teeth. The remaining teeth in the jaws can be used for supporting this prosthesis,if present. If remaining teeth are not available for support surgical options such as conventional implants, patient specific implants or zygomatic implants can be used to support the prosthesis.
