Hematology
Hematology services include routine blood investigations such as Complete Blood Count (CBC), hemoglobin estimation, blood sugar testing, prothrombin time (PT), and blood group testing. The department is equipped with a three-part hematology analyzer and a thrombostat to support accurate and reliable diagnostic investigations.
Introduction
What is Hematology ?
Hematology is a branch of medicine concerned with the study of blood and its components offering valuable information about a patient’s general health status.
Complete blood count (Hemogram) is a routinely performed test which provides information about an individual’s blood cells like white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, the concentration of haemoglobin and haematocrit. It is used to evaluate the overall health of a person and detect any variations from the normal range.
Hemoglobin estimation is a blood test to measure the amount of haemoglobin in a blood sample. It is used for diagnosing and monitoring anemia and other blood disorders.

Blood sugar level (fasting, post-prandial and random) measures the amount of glucose in your blood and mainly used for screening and monitoring of diabetes and pre-diabetes.
Prothrombin time (PT) – Prothrombin time measures the clotting tendency of the blood. It is useful in diagnosing bleeding disorders.
Blood group test is used to determine the blood group of an individual.
These services are available at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology. Our Department is equipped with a fully functional three-part hematology analyzer and a thrombostat, enabling efficient and accurate analysis of blood components. These instruments play a crucial role in routine hematological investigations, including complete blood counts and coagulation tests, thereby supporting both diagnostic and research needs with reliability and precision..
