Frequently asked questions
Professional teeth cleaning really necessary if I brush and floss every day?
Yes, even with excellent brushing and flossing some plaque hardens into tartar
(calculus) that can be removed by dentist or hygienist. Professional scaling and polishing also helps to reach areas you might miss, keeps gums healthy and prevents long term issues like cavities and gum disease.
Will cleaning loosen my teeth?
No. However if you already have advanced gum disease and tartar build up. Cleaning may reveal existing mobility that was previously hidden by deposits. The procedure itself does not cause the teeth to loosen.
If my gums bleed while brushing, should I worry about my heart?
Bleeding gums are an early sign of gum disease. It doesn’t mean you will develop heart disease, but it shows that harmful bacteria and infection are present. Research shows that people with severe gum disease are at higher risk of heart problems compared to those with healthy gums. If you experience any signs of gum disease visit our department.
How is Periodontal flap surgery performed?
Periodontal flap surgery involves gently lifting of gums (creating flap) to gain access to roots of teeth and underlying bone. The periodontist removes plaque, tartar and diseased tissue from deep pockets, smoothens root surfaces and repositions gums to fit snugly around teeth. In some cases, bone graft material maybe placed to regenerate the lost bone before suturing the gums back.
What different types of procedures can LASER be used for?
There is a wide spectrum of procedures that can be performed safely with dental lasers, from hard tissue procedures on teeth and bone to soft tissue procedures such as treating non – invasive herpes lesions, releasing tongue – tie in infants, biopsy procedures for pathological reports, treating implant failures and other periodontal procedures. Lasers can be used in daily practice for improved patient comfort and procedural precision.
